Our solution
- To deliver 16 interactive media workshops in special schools across Nottinghamshire
- To explain the meaning of consent, discuss scenarios where consent might be required and to discuss appropriate coping strategies
- To encourage the children to share their new-found knowledge with others by scripting and recording radio adverts or short videos
- To provide teachers with a lesson plan and comprehensive resources to be able to continue the conversation after the workshop had ended
They said
“This programme on consent is incredibly valuable, probably one of the most valuable things we’ve done all year. It has been a forum to open up other conversations about what is right and what is wrong.”
Sally, Rawson, Teacher, Bracken Hill School, Kirkby in Ashfield
“The fact that this is creative and the kids are consenting to go to it as an option really helps. It definitely makes the difficult subjects easier to talk about.”
Andy,Tuckwood, Teaching Assistant, Derrymount School, Nottingham
“We thought the day would be particularly difficult for some students. One child was a great success as he struggles to engage with most lessons in school. Our children are very vulnerable and needed something like this to get their teeth into.”
Jake Brindley, Teacher, The Beech Academy, Mansfield
“Thank you for yesterday, the kids really enjoyed themselves and are proud of their adverts.
[Pupil name] showed staff her rhyme which is a real breakthrough for her. They also fed back that they understand what consent is and how important it is.”
Sarah Barrett, Director of Provision, The Beech Academy, Mansfield
