Clean Air

We all know that eating well and exercising more is good for us.  But did you know that being more active and using public transport can also improve our health and our environment too?   If we all get involved by making some fairly small changes in how we behave we can potentially make a huge impact on the quality of the air we breathe.

The Challenge

Transport for Greater Manchester are keen to hear your ideas on ways to reduce pollution in the area and make it a healthier, cleaner place to live.

In 60 seconds we want you to create a radio or video advert that explains the dangers poor air quality can have on our health and the easy things everybody can do to reduce pollution.   These changes could be as simple as switching off the car engine during the school drop off, walking to school and avoiding busy roads, or travelling by tram, bus or train.  These are just a couple of examples of the types of things that can be done.

What Else?

You’ll find loads of additional information to help you write and produce your advert here on the Collaborate Digital website.  The shortlisted schools will have the opportunity to show off what you have achieved at a prestigious event at Media City, and there’ll be some fabulous prizes for the winning schools.

Clean Air Day is on Thursday 21st June and the deadline to submit your finished ads is the following day, Friday 22nd June.

The judges will be listening out for enthusiasm, accurate information and lots of personality.  So get creative, have fun and good luck!

  • How my data is used?

Tip 1

Work together in groups of four or five – more minds will create something really special and interesting. Discuss what you’re being asked to do and brainstorm to come up with a brilliant idea.

Tip 2

Make sure you research the subject before you start writing. Use the resources here on the website and follow the links to relevant websites. Watch all the videos too, they’re packed full of useful information.

Tip 3

You don’t need loads of special equipment – you can record on a mobile phone or a tablet.
There is free software available online if you want to edit your video – this article recommends some of the best. For free audio editing programmes take a look here.
